I’ve enjoyed blogging over the semester – it’s a good ongoing motivation to keep writing in Spanish on a regular basis, and I thought it was good to be exposed to a variety of different sources and mediums to practice reading and listening comprehension. I also liked being able to choose my own topic and write in a more unrestricted and interactive way than in an assignment or test. I think I was lucky with my topic because it enabled me to learn more about Spanish culture, and it was easy to find information on.
Personally I felt I got a more solid grasp on grammar from doing weekly exercises (like last semester) than from blogging, however I do feel more comfortable writing in Spanish now, and trying to incorporate grammatical structures into my writing.
In terms of improving the exercise, I think that the word limit needs to be bigger, because I felt like I could not fulfil the marking criteria within 80/100 words. Also, I think the expectations need to be made clear from the beginning, as I don’t think I did as well on the first few blogs as I could have if I understood the evaluation properly.
Overall, I think blogging has been a fun and interesting exercise, and I prefer it as a progressive assessment that allows improvement, rather than one or two tests or essays.
